Steppe Milk Guide – Milk Those Dzos

Latest posts by Emily Medlock (see all)

A Steppe Milk guide can help you learn how to get and use Steppe Milk. You can find it by killing Steppe Dzos in the Azim Steppe, along with various other ways. My top choice for getting Steppe Milk is via the Marketboard.

When you drink Steppe Milk, you get a +3% EXP bonus for 30 minutes. If you drink more, it lasts for 60 minutes. However, the main purpose of Steppe Milk is to make food. You need it for some Crystarium Deliveries.

Otherwise, it’s a mediocre ingredient, as the foods it makes aren’t better than the new Shadowbringers and Endwalker foods. As a Custom Delivery fan, I’ve bought this off the Marketboard.

How to Get Steppe Milk

The original way to get Steppe Milk is to kill Dzos. But there are three other ways, and all are viable farms. I prefer the Marketbord, but I also like farming enemies for drops, especially as Ninja with Mug.

Steppe Dzo

The Steppe Dzo is a level 65 beast located at the Azim Steppe. The best place to find them is to the southeast, just south of the aetheryte. These Dzos also drop Dzo Horns and Dzo Chuck.

Retainer Hunting Venture

Retainers can be assigned to get Steppe Milk from Hunting Ventures at level 66. Of course, there are better options for ventures, but it’s a great way to get the milk passively. I will always do quick ventures and hope for something rare.

Marketboard

This is by far the best way to get Steppe Milk. You can get them for around 50 gil each, depending on the server and the market at the time. I don’t see any reason not to do it this way.

What to Make with Steppe Milk

Steppe Milk can make a variety of foods. I don’t recommend any of them, but you can still find value in them if you get them from quests or drops. Or if you want to level crafters at the same level as the food.

FAQs

Question: Where is the Azime Steppe?

Answer: The Azim Steppe is in Othard. You can reach it by following the MSQ of Stormblood. It is directly connected to the Ruby Sea and Yanxia, but not to Kugane.

Question: What is Night Milk in FFXIV?

Answer: Night Milk has the same icon as Steppe Milk, but it is dropped by Buffalo in Eastern La Noscea. It’s easy to confuse the two, but Steppe Milk is a higher level.

Question: What is a Dzo?

Answer: A dzo is a real animal hybrid between a yak and a cow. It is a Mongolian animal, which makes sense considering the Azim Steppe is largely based on Mongolia.

Skipping Steppe Milk

It’s entirely possible and even likely that you would skip Steppe Milk in Final Fantasy XIV. If I didn’t do delivery, I would have. I probably would have thrown out what I did get from dungeons because it’s not worth selling it on the Marketboard.

That said, if you have the ingredients for porridge or pudding in your inventory, I say go ahead and make it with Steppe Milk to save yourself time and gil. I hear it tastes just like fatty aldogat milk.
